COAST4US: APPLICATION OF THE COAST TOOL TO THE PORTUGUESE WEST COASTLINE

Over the years, people have been settling in coastal areas, as they provide opportunities, both economically and terms of well-being leisure. However, coastline is also exposed to serious problems erosion, particularly on urban fronts, increasing consequences derived from adjacent phenomena such overtopping flooding. It therefore essential deepen study strategies for prediction, prevention mitigation this phenomenon. In sense, COAST (Coast Optimization Assessment Tool), a tool integrated cost-benefit analysis interventions mitigate erosion problems, was developed. The COAST4US project - Application Portuguese coast aims contribute feasibility applying real situations, contributing an efficient providing decision makers with more better information. proposes apply three stretches at high risk west coast: Aveiro, Figueira da Foz, Costa de Caparica. divided several tasks, including scenario modeling, cost prediction benefit assessment, being work focused assessment by estimating value each beach, analyzing effectiveness nourishment scenarios.
